Justin Bieber may have another charge to add to his recent troubles with law enforcement. Reports from a charter flight to New Jersey from Toronto last week alleged that Bieber, his father, and the nine others on the flight, smoked marijuana and abused the flight attendants. Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it is investigating the allegations thrown at Justin Bieber and the other passengers on his flight.
According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection report, Bieber and his father repeatedly ignored the pilot’s warnings to stop smoking pot on the flight, which was supposedly so thick, the pilots were forced to wear oxygen masks to prevent them from inhaling the smoke. The pilots were concerned the smoke would cause them to fail drug tests. The flight attendant was also asked to remain in the cockpit with the pilots, as she was allegedly subjected to abusive behavior from the passengers.
The FAA said it is “looking into allegations” that passengers on the plane interfered with the flight crew, an act that carries both civil and criminal punishments. Violating a civil statute carries a fine of up to $27,500, while under the criminal statute, violators could face up to 20 years in a federal prison and a $250,000 fine. After smelling the odor of marijuana, federal agents and border agents detained Bieber and the other passengers for several hours after landing, while drug-sniffing dogs were brought to search the plane. No drugs were found on Bieber’s flight.
This was not the first time Bieber has been accused of smoking the drug. He was photographed smoking what appeared to be a blunt on January 2 in a Newport Beach hotel. This came just one day after a photographer was killed trying to photograph Bieber’s limousine, claiming he spotted the teen smoking marijuana. A representative of the controversial star denied the claim at the time.
This investigation is another in a long line of recent run-ins with the law for the Canadian pop idol. Last month, he allegedly egged his neighbor’s house, causing $20,000 worth of damages. The Los Angeles County district attorney is considering charging Bieber with federal vandalism, after obtaining two videos that seem to show Bieber in the act of egging the house. Later in the month, Bieber was stopped by Miami Beach police after driving over 130 miles per hour in the early morning hours. He was charged with multiple crimes, including resisting arrest, drunken driving, and driving with an expired license. The teen faces a court date on March 3.
The incident at Miami Beach prompted an online petition to be created on whitehouse.gov, asking the government to deport Justin Bieber back to Canada and revoke his green card. A petition that reaches 100,000 signatures will receive a response from the White House and the Bieber petition has over 250,000. The petition calls Bieber dangerous and reckless and claims he is threatening the safety of the citizens of the United States. If the investigation of Justin Bieber’s flight bears any fruit, he will have no doubt threatened the safety of those on the flight and those claims will receive even more evidence.
