Kora Master Mamadou Diabate Launches Kickstarter Campaign for New Album

Malian kora maestro Mamadou Diabate has recorded a new album and decided not to go with a record label this time around. The plan is to release the record himself with funding through Kickstarter.

“Mamadou has worked extremely hard developing the pieces on the new record,” says audio engineer Jason Richmond. “We both want to make sure that it gets the recognition and audience that it deserves, thus it is really important that this campaign is successful, so that we can release the record and have it properly promoted.’

Mamadou is offering many incentives that include simply pre-ordering the CD or digital download to hi-res versions of the album, signed CD’s, and even lessons with him. The new solo kora record is scheduled for release in July.
