Super Bowl Face-off: Broncos and Seahawks

After 20 long weeks, only the Broncos and the Seahawks remain to face-off in this year’s Super Bowl, which is to be held at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on Feb. 2at 3:30 PM. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
In the first of two highly anticipated games held today, the Denver Broncos squared up against the New England patriots. This game received a lot of attention due to the long ongoing rivalry between quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.
The Broncos started off the game with an early lead, and from there managed to out perform the Patriots on both ends of the field. During the second quarter the Patriots suffered a tremendous loss when cornerback Aqib Talib left the game with an injury. It was at this point that Manning’s passing game took off and it seemed almost as if Manning was reliving his glory days with the Colts. Manning completed over 75 percent of his passes for a total of 400 passing yards. In addition, Manning completed two touchdown passes and had no interceptions.
On the other side of the field, the Broncos defense had a spectacular performance. For the first three quarters of the game, the Broncos defense greatly impeded the Patriots ability to score. Although the Patriots rallied a comeback in the fourth quarter, it was not enough, as the combination of the Broncos offensive and defensive lines had created enough distance between the teams to ensure that they won the game. At the end of the game, the best team won, and the Broncos ensured their Super Bowl spot with their 26-16 victory.
Following the Broncos-Patriots game, the Seattle Seahawks went head-to-head with the San Francisco 49ers for a spot in this year’s Super Bowl. Once more, a nation tuned in to watch a well-known rivalry. However, the attention for this game was focused on both teams defensive strategies, as both are well known for their defensive lines.
In a much closer game, the Seahawks emerged victorious with their 23-17 win over the 49ers. At the end of the first half, the game seemed to be in favor of the 49ers. However, the momentum changed during the second half for the Seahawks with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Jermaine Kearse, which gave the Seahawks a 20-17 lead. Then, the quarterback suffered a major loss, as has been the reoccurring trend in today’s games.
The 49ers lost linebacker NoVarro Bowman with the ball on Seattle’s one-yard line. During the second half, the Seahawks outscored the 49ers 20-7. In the end, it was Seattle’s noted defense that took the victory. With 30 seconds remaining in the game San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick hurled the ball at Michael Crabtree who was located in the end zone. However, Seahawks Richard Sherman spiked the ball into the hands of Malcolm Smith for an interception that secured their spot in the Super Bowl to face-off with the Broncos.
After today’s games both the Broncos and the Seahawks will enjoy one week off before the two face-off in this year’s Super Bowl. The game should prove to be a battle of the Broncos strong offensive line versus that of the Seahawks phenomenal defense. As a result, it would seem that the game will be either a close call, or a blowout in which either offense or defense prevails.
